An Oral History of How the Bible Impacted My Life by John DiCesare

Here is an oral history video of how the Bible impacted my life as it relates to Library of the Bible.

The Apostle St. Paul says, “For the word of God is living and powerful.”  It impacts our hearts and lives in a personal way as we seek God.  My Bible and I, a video story on how the Bible touched my heart and impacted my life.

Tell us, in a small paragraph, about the time you first read the Bible, how it touched your heart and or impacted your life.  Or an experience when the Word became real or active for you.  Or how the Word impacted or changed your life in a significant way.  Or just share your favorite Bible verse or passage and tell us why that is.  Below are some letters sent in that reflect how God’s Word is living and active in the lives of people.

  1. “The Lord spoke to my heart one afternoon as I pondered on how I should serve Him. He popped Gideon into my thoughts, and as I read through Gideon’s life, Judges 6:16 shined brightly “Surely I will be with you.” Just this little phrase has led me to teach God’s Word to people daily. He’s truly been with me.”

  2. “Luke 15:4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

I have had some dark times within the last few years where I strayed away from the Lord. I was living a life of sin and not really knowing it. But God Almighty brought me back home. Hallelujah!”

  3. “My favorite verse in the Bible is ch 2Tim1;7 (GOD did not give us a spirit of fear but a spirit of love, peace, and a sound mind.) I feel like whenever I have feared this is my favorite verse to go to. I also have it memorized, I feel its one we all should! It gives me comfort knowing my GOD is with me and I shall fear nothing. I remember even having a nightmare while sleeping one night and somehow I spoke that scripture in my sleep and sure enough the enemy immediately left. As I woke up I was like Wow how did I know to say that scripture in my sleep, It goes to show how powerful Gods word is and no matter where we are He will never leave us!”

  4. As a new believer, just a few months old in the Lord, filled with the Spirit but still in the beginning processes of a deep and fast work of sanctification in my life, as I was sitting in on the Sunday morning teaching, (having just found a powerful, Bible-teaching church for the first time in my life, and having pretty much fully just come out of years of addiction and hippie living by way of a powerful personal encounter with Jesus Christ) the pastor was speaking on idolatry out of the Old Testament. The Holy Spirit revealed to me at that moment that marijuana was an idol, a god, an addiction and stronghold in my life that He wanted to set me free from once and for all. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want anything to have my heart and affection, to influence me or control me in any way, shape or form but my precious Jesus, who had just recently delivered me so mightily, from so much, and had set me free by His love and grace. I wanted to be wholly devoted to Him alone. I went home, flushed the last of my stash, repented, and never bought, sold, or used dope again. The Word of God is alive and living, sharper than any two-edged sword… He has continued shining in the light of His Word, day after day, year after year, now 25+ years this far down the road. A lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path.
